Single digit highs and the wind chill of -20 degrees. I am not happy but each horse has shown me how to take the cold.
What is your horse like????

You have to be kidding with this weather. I am FREEZING! My tootsies are cold and I am totally miserable. Can someone take me on a cruise to the Caribean? Ok, how about Ocala? They don’t even have a fireplace here!
Ours are out to pasture on a big ranch in Wyoming wandering on 150,000 acres. Twenty five dollars a head per month. Hopefully safe until spring.
Sounds like a great place to be! I cannot imagine that it is colder there than here!
Stay warm!

I laughed out loud, Jill! Ponies look so adorable in the snow…
This being sunny Africa, temperatures seldom drop below -12 C and snow is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Still, frost and rain can be unpleasant. While three of my native horses don’t turn a hair, the OTTB and (oddly enough) the mare who is so native and so crossbred that nobody really knows what breed she actually is tend to suffer in the cold. That’s when the big New Zealand rugs come out…
I am glad that you found this post funny. My students love it when I “talk” like the horses. When you have been around horses as long as I have, I think I am actually one!
Buttons is constantly ruining blankets and taking them off of the other horses, he is sooo bad!
May God bless you and your work in Africa!

My horse has killed his new blanket. AGAIN. A hole right through two layers of blanket and filling all the way down to his coat. He’s outside most of the day and he has a habit of playing with other horses who grab him by the blanket. Also, he scratches his butt in his stable, thereby leaving scratches in his blanket.
He’s now getting a blanket that is said to be ‘indestructable’.
Challenge accepted…
OOOOOH!!! Pleeeeease keep me posted!! An indestructible horse blanket??? Did they test it on Buttons?
Let me know how you make out!
